How to Play

Guessing: Tap a letter, or just press it on a keyboard. If the word contains that letter it appears everywhere it belongs — a letter that turns up twice costs you only one guess.
Wrong letters: Six wrong letters and the round is over. Used letters turn green if they were in the word and grey if they weren't, so you never waste a guess repeating yourself.
Stuck?: Press 💡 Hint for a clue about what the word means. It doesn't cost you a guess.
Difficulty: Easy sticks to shorter words, gives you 8 wrong guesses, and reveals one letter to start. Medium is 6 guesses and no freebie. Hard allows the longest words and only 5 wrong guesses.
Categories: Animals, Food, Space, School and Nature. Your choice is remembered next time, and words won't repeat straight away.
Tip: Start with vowels — A, E, I, O, U — then the common consonants like R, S, T, L and N. Most words hide fewer places than you'd think once the vowels are showing.
Grown-ups: adding words: Open games/hangman/js/words.js and copy one of the blocks. Each entry needs a word and a hint. Words must be letters only — no spaces or apostrophes — since the keyboard only offers A–Z.
