- Top (white) face — clockwise, counter-clockwise, or half turn
- D / D' / D2
- Bottom (yellow) face
- F / F' / F2
- Front (green) face — the one facing you
- B / B' / B2
- Back (blue) face — opposite the front
- L / L' / L2
- Left (orange) face
- R / R' / R2
- Right (red) face
Hold the cube so the named face is on top or front, then turn that layer the way the arrow would go if you were looking straight at it.
